The demo suggests that Duet could handle more of the purchasing process itself: product search, comparison, checkout navigation and payment preparation, while sensitive actions such as final payment approval remain with the user.
How the shopping flow could work
- User gives Duet a shopping task.
- Duet searches and compares products.
- The agent selects a suitable option.
- It navigates to checkout.
- Stripe Link handles payment credentials and authorization.
- The user confirms the transaction.
The main difference from a standard chatbot is execution: Duet is designed to perform multi-step actions, not just return recommendations.
Technical specifications
Duet is expected to run on Anthropic’s latest agent-focused Claude model.
| Specification | Claude Opus 5.5 |
| Context window | 1M tokens |
| Max output | 128K tokens |
| Input | Text, images |
| Output | Text |
| Reasoning | Adaptive |
| API input price | $4 / 1M tokens |
| API output price | $20 / 1M tokens |
| Knowledge cutoff | June 2026 |
The large context window is useful for long-running agent workflows involving browser history, product specifications, user instructions and intermediate results.
Opus 5.5 vs. Opus 5
| Feature | Opus 5.5 | Opus 5 |
| Context | 1M | 1M |
| Max output | 128K | 128K |
| Input price | $4/M | $5/M |
| Output price | $20/M | $25/M |
| Knowledge cutoff | June 2026 | May 2026 |
The main improvement is cost: Opus 5.5 is 20% cheaper for both input and output tokens while keeping the same context window and maximum output.
For an agent that may make dozens of model calls during one task, that reduction is significant.
Duet vs. current Claude
Current Claude mainly follows:
Prompt → response
Duet is closer to:
Goal → plan → browser/tool actions → result → user approval when required
That makes Duet more suitable for tasks such as shopping, bookings and other workflows that require several consecutive actions.
What do the hashtags mean?
The early Duet interface shows hashtag-like labels under the agent.
One possibility is a Slack-style structure with separate topic threads such as:
- #shopping
- #research
- #travel
This could let one agent maintain multiple parallel workstreams.
However, Anthropic has not confirmed that interpretation. The hashtags could also be simple task labels or filters.
“aibo” codename
The tweet says Duet’s internal codename is “aibo.” Anthropic has not publicly documented that name, so it should be treated as an unconfirmed internal codename.
The key change with Duet is not better chat. It is the move from answering questions to completing multi-step tasks.
The Stripe Link demo shows what that could mean in practice: Claude may soon be able to take a purchase from product search to checkout, with the user stepping in only for final approval.
